ABOUT ME

Hi,

I'm Isabelle.

From graduation until today, I have around 7 years of professional experience at Grid Animation, a 3D animation and VFX company, based near Ghent, Belgium.

Early on in my career as a 3D artist, I was given the chance to demonstrate my skills in different artistic capacities on different projects.

Promoted since 2015 to CG Supervisor and responsible for a team of artists, managing the project, helping to solve its challenges on a daily basis in order to keep the deadlines and trying proactively to prevent any technical or artistical issues from arising.

I started in 2018 as a freelance 3D artist, to work on various projects for clients. A new challenge!

I enjoy to learn and use the different softwares, tools and techniques to satisfy my personal creativity and enhance my technical and artistic skills. As a result they enhance my professional capabilities as a CG supervisor to support my team in the execution of the project.

Supervising the project: Leading a team of artists, working with the department supervisors and production manager(s) as a team to deliver the project within deadline and budget.

Reviewing quality of the work along with the department’s leads.

Tracking the output and tasks of the artists with the help of Shotgun. Working along with the production manager(s) to make sure priorities are followed and quota’s are met.

In close co-operation with the TD-department, assist with the setup and the support of the project pipeline. Execute regular performance reviews with the TD-department in order to check the functionality and efficiency of the pipeline and when opportune, implement improvements to increase the artists’ productivity and to debug new tools.

General problem solving: Anticipate and solving the project’s daily challenges together with the department’s leads and production manager(s), helping the artists read and understand errors, work with them to fix the issues.

Render Farm management using Deadline: manage the farm together with the IT-department, making sure that the project is rendered before the scheduled project deadline, manage job priorities, finding, fixing and reporting issues when jobs fail.

Communication with the co-producers, supervisors, department leads, (art) directors and artists to discuss challenges, solve technical or artistic problems and to get the most out of the available resources.

Communication with the supervisors and production managers of external studios to help solving any pipeline or project specific issues.

Whenever needed, lending a hand to the team, helping to meet the deadline.

3D Generalist

During this period I worked and build up experience in the different aspects of VFX/3D animation production:

  • February 2015 - August 2015: Animation film “Deep” – 3D Modeler
    • Modelling and sculpting of high and low poly assets
    • creating 3D sets using 2D reference

     

  • September 2014 - January 2015: Live action film "Michiel De Ruyter"Digital Compositor, layout artist and animator
    • Compositing live action footage of Michiel De Ruyter with Fusion
    • Did the layout and animation of the Full CG Shots: Animated the camera's, boats and animated the fx to create naval battles in 3D.
    • Supervised the rendering of the fx during the last weeks of the project together with a small team.

     

  • May 2014 - August 2014: 3D-Animation feature film: "Oops, Noah is gone" - Lighter
    • Lighting shots using Maya and Arnold
    • Creating precomps with Nuke

     

  • February 2014- March 2014: 3D-Animation series "Ziggy and the Zoo Tram" - Layout modeller
    • Created a low poly version of the sets of the 3D animated series "Ziggy and the Zoo Tram"

 

  • June 2012 - May 2014: RnD and trailers for new projects, small advertisements - storyboarding, 3D modelling, layout, animation, shading, texturing, lighting, rendering and compositing
    • Occasionally over the period, working on artistic concepts and proposals for research and developement on future/potential projects.
    • Working on different advertisements and other small projects for Grid customers: storyboarding, 3D modelling, layout, animation, shading, texturing, lighting, rendering and compositing… In short: working as a 3D generalist 

 

  • April 2014: Pilot for the 3D-Animation series "Little Luke and Lucy" - Layout, 3D modelling, shading, layout, lighting, rendering and compositing
    • layout, lighting, rendering (Vray) and compositing the shots of the first episode and trailer.​
    • 3D modelling and shading some assets

 

  • August 2012 - August 2014: 3D-Animation series "Percy and Friends" (season 1 & 2) - 3D modeler and compositor
    • High poly modelling in Maya.
    • I scripted in MEL to speed up the modelling of some props
    • I lighted, rendered and comped the shots together with a team

Digital Arts and Entertainment, HOWEST (Hogeschool West-Vlaanderen) Kortrijk Belgium (2009 – 2012).

  • Graduated with Honours
  • Studied 3D-arts in combination with programming and scripting. This unique combination allowed me to develop my programming skills in my professional career, developing tools to support the artists in their creative work and automate processes.
  • Talent Factory nominee for best 3D-artist
  • Was part of the team in the finals of the 2011 Microsoft Imagine cup in New-York.
  • Internship at grid-vfx for 4 months, from 14-02-2012 to 15-06-2012.

  •  A general art course in which I was introduced to various art forms.
